On Friday, May 11, St. Francis School community came together to celebrate our differences. We had our first Multicultural celebration and it was an amazing day! We started the day with multicultural Mass, with the community processing in dressed in their cultural attire, Prayers of the Faithful read in seven different Languages, and the Eucharistic prayer in three different languages. After Mass we had booths set up focusing on nine different countries with food, fun facts, artifacts, and music. Students went from booth to booth, learning about the country, tasting their food, getting their passport stamped, and completing the trivia scavenger hunt. During lunch the community was entertained by an Irish dancer and a Steel drum performance from Trinidad and Tobago.
Celebrating our differences helped us to appreciate each other and become more aware of our own backgrounds. Through this celebration the community gained a sense of pride for the diversity of our own culture. Irrespective of where we come from, we realized and celebrated we are all made in the image and likeness of God. It was powerful and inspirational!
