Here at St. Patrick School, we take pride in many accomplishments, especially those of our students –those who are currently enrolled and those who have graduated but remain part of our school family! Our pride follows alumni throughout their high school and college endeavors and in this spotlight piece, we would like to highlight a wonderful young lady whose future shines as brightly today as the day she promoted from St. Patrick School.
After graduating from St. Patrick School in 2016, Alex Moreno moved on to attending The Academy of Our Lady of Peace (OLP). At OLP, Alex joined several clubs and organizations that empowered her to becoming a confident young lady. Among those life-changing groups were Women in Business, Humans for Humanity, BeYOUtiful, and many more. She was also a Carondelet Circle student Ambassador, participated in flamenco dance, played softball, and volunteered time at UCSD Moores Cancer Center. Alex shared with us that she has become a more driven individual, confident leader, and has desired to make a positive change in the world around her. With an impressive high school career in her rear view, Alex looks forward to starting college in the fall at the University of San Diego where she wants to begin her studies to become a dermatologist.
As extensive as her high school resume is, we are not surprised that Alex has accomplished all that she has. Students who graduate from St. Patrick School are well equipped from the beginning of their educational journey to achieve great things. Alex recalled her days in the Academic Decathlon at St. Patrick School. She shared,
“…one [memory] I value the most was representing my school at the 2015 Academic Decathlon and bringing home 2nd place in the Fine Arts subject test for the St. Pat’s community. It gave me the opportunity to be a part of an amazing team of students, as we all worked hard to make the St. Pat’s community proud. It was also a very proud moment for me as I had accomplished a goal I set my mind to achieving.”
Alex applauds her Catholic education at St. Patrick School and OLP in helping to mold and shape her love of service for the community –a pillar of our faith that is essential in our educational goals at St. Patrick School. Coupled with our efforts to form well-rounded and well-grounded Christians, our school prides itself for fostering admirable values of the Catholic faith in our students who then affect a positive change in the communities they are filtered into after their time at our school is over. One beautiful example is Alex.
Alex’s younger sister, following in the footsteps of her older sibling, just promoted from St. Patrick School and will be attending OLP this upcoming school year. We asked Alex what piece of advice she wanted to offer her sister, Anilu. Alex said, “One piece of advice that I would like to emphasize to Anilu is to take every single opportunity that comes her way.” Alex shared this nugget of advice because her senior year was slightly modified due to school closures and COVID-19, but even given those circumstances, we could not be more proud of what she did accomplish these past four years and are excited to see where the road takes her in the next four years. Great job, Alex! You have made us proud. May God bless the road towards that diploma that awaits you.
