On Thursday July 16th, Cristo Rey San Diego High School welcomed Bishop Dolan to preside over the blessing and dedication ceremony for the newest college preparatory Catholic high school in San Diego. The blessing takes place as Cristo Rey San Diego embarks on its inaugural year and begins classes on August 24th 2020.
Bishop Dolan declared that Cristo Rey would be a beacon of hope for the community and was aptly located upon a hill next to St Jude Shrine of the West in the neighborhood of Southcrest. Cristo Rey San Diego will be the newest addition to the San Diego Catholic Schools community and dedicates itself to providing a faith based college preparatory education for young men and women of limited economic means throughout the greater San Diego area. All students earn a majority of their tuition through the high school’s Corporate Work Study Program. This program allows for students of all faiths and backgrounds to have access to a high quality Catholic college preparatory education.
The Bishop and Cristo Rey’s founding staff and faculty were joined by the school’s board members, members of the congregation of Jesus and Mary, contributors, and clergy from St. Jude parish. The support that Cristo Rey has received from San Diego’s rich and diverse community has helped make Cristo Rey possible.
The blessing and dedication ceremony came shortly after Cristo Rey San Diego announced that it will begin its school year with in-person instruction and learning due to its small class sizes. The inaugural year will begin with a founding freshmen class. Each day, twenty-five percent of its students will be working for one of Cristo Rey’s Corporate Work Study Partners. Each class will have an average size of 15 students. This gives Cristo Rey the opportunity to comfortably implement and follow all County health and safety procedures set forth.
Cristo Rey San Diego continues to enroll students entering the 9th grade. If you have any questions or would like to offer financial support visit their website (www.cristoreysandiego.org) or call their admissions office at (619) 432-1899.
