SPX School’s eighth grade students spent a day at iFLY Indoor Skydiving in Mission Valley. Imagine the excitement in the air when students were given flying instruction, safety training and flying time which provided concrete examples of several STEM concepts related to the wind tunnel. Students discussed the differences between solids and fluids, how different forces work in the wind tunnel, and how changing the shape of an object will affect its speed in the tunnel. Their day included an interactive presentation, lab activities, safety training and, of course, flying! They learned how STEM is used in the real-world and the many STEM career options that are available among a multitude of related topics.
“It’s great to see our students learning and enjoying the great hand’s-on STEM lessons”, said John Turskey, Principal of St Pius X School.
