On Thursday, January 25th, the Academy of Our Lady of Peace had the pleasure of welcoming Fr. Greg Boyle of Homeboy Industries, founded in 1988, to our campus to celebrate Mass in the name of kinship and unity. Fr. Greg has been a Catholic priest and highly valued member of his community in Los Angeles for 34 years. His efforts and constant demonstration of love and compassion have embedded him as a pillar of acceptance and inclusion in the world at large. He won the California Peace Prize in 2011, was named a Champion of Change by the White House in 2014, and was inducted into the California Hall of Fame as a renowned public servant.\n\nThe Mass was a truly transformative experience for all present. Along with Fr. Greg’s moving homily, Homies Jason and Marcos touched the entire OLP community with their inspiring testimonies. All aspects of the Mass connected to the central themes of kinship and unity, with Fr. Greg bringing every topic he spoke of back to these ideas. The story of the Prodigal Son caused the entire congregation to reflect on God’s healing mercy which is available to all people, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances. We are blessed and grateful to have had Father Greg and his Homies visit us and share their message.
